Teaching Philosophy

My studio is located in Attleboro, MA., convenient to Providence and the southern suburbs of MA. I also teach virtual lessons using Zoom. With this tool I am able to serve students through-out the country!

I teach my students the Bel Canto technique focusing on breath, body support, appoggio and release of body tensions as well as maintaining an open throat structure to create a free and easy vocal production.  We use these vocal techniques and sometimes modify them as appropriate when singing all different genres and styles of music literature.  For Musical Theater students, I  utilize my classical training to teach a clean and beautiful head mix and a belt that is free from tensions and exciting for the listener. My students are well rounded musicians who focus on Musical Theater and Contemporary music as well Classical Art Song, Opera and Oratorio.  My students have made great improvements and have had successful auditions at their schools and local theater companies.

Within my private studio, I strive to teach my singers to be the best possible musicians.  We work on basic music theory and musicianship.  We learn how to prepare for auditions, how to work with accompanists, and how to prepare a new role.  I provide my students with performing opportunities by holding monthly studio classes, cabarets and audition workshops.  I also have at least one Studio Recital a year where my students are encouraged to perform a piece they have worked on throughout the year. In addition to these opportunities within the studio, I encourage and prepare my students to perform in Masterclasses, and sing for local competitions through NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) for which I am a member of both the RI and MA chapters, as well as the competitions through Classical Singer Magazine.

TESTIMONIALS

Alisa Cassola is a phenomenal teacher. The difference between my voice now and when I first started with Alisa is tremendous. I always left my lessons feeling happy, excited, like I could sing anything, and overall just better than when I walked in. She’s always encouraging and pushes you to try new things, even if you’re a little unsure. She truly understands how the voice works and expresses her knowledge in a way that anyone can understand. My technique never stopped improving and I have Alisa to thank for everything. Samantha L.

Through training with Alisa Cassola, my voice has become louder, clearer, and more free than i could have ever imagined. A professional opera singer herself, Alisa provides her students with a classical base which allows them to sing any style in a healthy, technique-driven way. In addition to strengthening the voice long-term, Alisa also works with you on specific songs and can suggest appropriate repertoire for different individuals. Her one-on-one training helped to prepare me for musical theatre auditions and performances both vocally and mentally. Her studio classes also made me more comfortable working with an accompanist and singing for an audience. Alisa’s vast professional experience combined with her patience and commitment to her students makes her a great vocal coach for beginners and experienced singers alike. My lessons with her were always the highlight of my week and I know her instruction will stay with me as I move on to college and beyond. Penelope H.
